Eigent Release Notes v0.0.88: Native macOS Electron, Claude 4.6 & Ernie Support
A native desktop experience, latest model support, and smoother agent workflows

Eigent Open Source Cowork Release Notes: Native macOS Electron, Claude 4.6 & Ernie Support 🚀
Eigent v0.0.88 marks a milestone for the desktop experience. This release introduces a fully native macOS Electron window with system-level vibrancy effects, brings support for the latest Claude 4.6 models, and expands the open source cowork platform with Baidu's Ernie as a custom model option.
Whether you're looking for a cowork alternative that feels truly native on your Mac or simply want access to the newest AI models, this release delivers. Let's dive in.
🖥️ Native macOS Electron Styling
The biggest visual upgrade in this release — Eigent now feels like a true macOS-native app.
Huge thanks to @Douglasymlai, with reviews and collaboration from @4pmtong, for shipping the native macOS Electron styling. This has been in the works since PR #1110 and represents a major step forward for Eigent as a desktop cowork alternative.
The Eigent cowork desktop app now leverages macOS NSVisualEffectView to render a translucent, frosted-glass window that blends seamlessly with your desktop. This isn't just a CSS backdrop filter — it's real system-level vibrancy, the same effect you see in native Apple apps like Finder and Messages.
What's new:
- Native macOS vibrancy using
NSVisualEffectViewwithHudWindowmaterial - Translucent window chrome that blends with your wallpaper and desktop
- Rounded window corners matching macOS design language
- Proper blending mode (
WithinWindow) for correct rendering without white-screen artifacts - Seamless integration with macOS window management, including fullscreen and split-view
For anyone who has wanted their open source cowork tool to look and feel like it belongs on macOS — this is it.

🤖 Claude Sonnet & Opus 4.6 Model Support
Staying current with the latest models.
Thanks to @fengju0213, reviewed by @Wendong-Fan, Eigent now supports Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.6 — the newest additions to Anthropic's Claude model family.
What you get:
- Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.6 in the model selector
- Access to improved reasoning, coding, and instruction-following capabilities
- Full compatibility across all Eigent cowork agent types and workflows
Whether you're running complex multi-step agent workflows or simple task automation, having the latest Claude models available means you can always pick the best tool for the job inside your eigent cowork workspace.

🧠 Baidu Ernie Custom Model Support
More model flexibility for the global community.
Thanks to @fengju0213, with reviews from @bytecii and @zechengz, Eigent now supports Baidu's Ernie as a custom model option. This expands the platform's reach for users who prefer or require Chinese-language AI models.
What's included:
- Ernie available as a custom model in the model configuration
- Full documentation for setting up and using Ernie with Eigent
- Compatible with all existing agent workflows — just select Ernie as your model
This is what makes Eigent a true open source cowork platform — model-agnostic, globally accessible, and community-driven.

⚙️ Streamlined Agent Toolkits
Cleaner architecture, fewer surprises.
Thanks to @fengju0213, reviewed by @Wendong-Fan, for removing unnecessary toolkit assignments from task and coordinator agents.
Previously, task agents and coordinator agents were initialized with toolkits they didn't need, adding complexity without benefit. This cleanup ensures that each agent type only carries the tools it actually uses.
What's changed:
- Removed toolkit from task agent — task agents focus on execution, not tool management
- Removed toolkit from coordinator agent — coordinators orchestrate, they don't need direct tool access
- Cleaner agent initialization with fewer unnecessary dependencies
A small architectural improvement that makes the eigent cowork agent system more predictable and easier to extend.

🔑 Electron Hybrid Login Flow
Seamless authentication for the desktop app.
Thanks to @4pmtong for implementing a hybrid login flow that works both locally and via eigent.ai callback for the Electron desktop app.
What's new:
- Local auto-login for returning users on the desktop app
- eigent.ai callback support for Electron authentication
- Click-to-sign-in flow that prevents unintended auth state initialization
- Proper auth state management on app startup
Desktop users now get a smoother, more reliable login experience — whether they're signing in for the first time or returning to an existing session.
🐛 Bug Fixes
This release also includes several targeted fixes to improve stability:
-
Fixed potential runtime bug — Addressed an edge case that could cause unexpected behavior. (#1477 — @nitpicker55555)
-
Fixed empty example skills — Resolved an issue where example skills would show up empty in certain configurations. (#1483 — @4pmtong)
-
Fixed Agent Folder state persistence — When creating a new project, the Agent Folder panel no longer shows files from the previous task. The root cause was local React state not being cleared on task switch. (#1485 — @dev-miro26)
-
Fixed macOS vibrancy white screen — Corrected the
NSVisualEffectBlendingModefromBehindWindowtoWithinWindow, fixing a white screen issue in the native macOS implementation. (#1496 — @4pmtong)
